Faded Florals

Timeworn floral finishes that transform furniture into romantic, antique-style pieces

About the workshop

This two-day workshop is an invitation to slow down and create furniture with soul. It is about building timeworn floral finishes through layers, washes and patina, allowing colour, florals and surface to evolve together into something rich, romantic and quietly expressive.

Rather than bold decoration or obvious pattern, the focus is on creating furniture that feels gently aged, softened by time and full of character. Florals become part of the story of the piece, working naturally with washes and patina so everything feels harmonious and considered. Each layer adds depth, softness and movement, transforming furniture into something evocative and antique in spirit.

Over the two days, you will learn how to let a surface develop naturally, responding to what is happening as you work rather than following rigid steps. This is an intuitive, creative process where florals, colour and ageing come together to create furniture that feels timeless, poetic and entirely individual.

Overview

This is a two-day, immersive furniture workshop for those who already paint and want to explore more expressive, layered floral finishes. The focus is on depth, softness and character, using washes, patina and florals together to create furniture with a romantic, timeworn feel.

This course is about exploration, confidence and refinement rather than speed or formulas. It offers space to slow down, develop your eye, and work intuitively with surface, colour and ageing.

Is this workshop for me?

This is an intermediate-level workshop.

It is suitable for participants who are confident painting furniture and understand preparation, basic paint handling and finishing. You do not need to be advanced, but this course is not suitable for complete beginners.

If you have already painted furniture and feel ready to move beyond flat finishes into more nuanced, creative surface work, this workshop will suit you well.

What you will learn

  • How to build layered, timeworn floral finishes on furniture
  • How to use washes and patina to soften colour and create depth
  • How to work florals, colour and ageing together as one cohesive surface
  • How to let a finish develop naturally rather than forcing an outcome
  • How to create romantic, antique-inspired furniture with character and movement

What you will work on

You will work on a furniture piece over the two days, allowing time for layers to develop, decisions to be made thoughtfully, and the finish to evolve.

Finished examples and reference pieces will be available throughout the workshop to inspire ideas and guide your creative choices.

How the two days run

The workshop is structured but unhurried. Each stage is demonstrated clearly before you begin, followed by supported making time.

The two-day format allows space to step back, reflect, adjust and refine, which is essential when working with layered, expressive finishes. You will be guided throughout, with individual feedback and encouragement.
